Kami Glass loves someone she’s never met . . . a boy she’s talked to in her head ever since she was born. She wasn’t silent about her imaginary friend during her childhood, and is thus a bit of an outsider in her sleepy English town of Sorry-in-the-Vale. Still, Kami hasn’t suffered too much from not fitting in. She has a best friend, runs the school newspaper, and is only occasionally caught talking to herself. Her life is in order, just the way she likes it, despite the voice in her head.
But all that changes when the Lynburns return.
The Lynburn family has owned the spectacular and sinister manor that overlooks Sorry-in-the-Vale for centuries. The mysterious twin sisters who abandoned their ancestral home a generation ago are back, along with their teenage sons, Jared and Ash, one of whom is eerily familiar to Kami. Kami is not one to shy away from the unknown—in fact, she’s determined to find answers for all the questions Sorry-in-the-Vale is suddenly posing. Who is responsible for the bloody deeds in the depths of the woods? What is her own mother hiding? And now that her imaginary friend has become a real boy, does she still love him? Does she hate him? Can she trust him?
Review:
After finishing this book I instantly went to check if there was a second book. Unfortunately, the next book, Untold, comes out in September!
However, the reason I gave this book a '3' is, to be honest, I finished 3 books while trying to get through the first half of the book. When Kami meets a certain Lynburn, there is a peek of excitement, so naturally, I'm thinking "oh, good, we are past the introduction -where everything is fairly boring and normal." I was wrong, it's not like Sarah re-introduces everything, it's that the plot simply isn't intriguing enough.
If you are a determined reader and you finish all your books in one sit-in, I'd probably commend this book to you. The second half of the book is explosive! Certain characters have a twist in heart. The one major twist that just blew my mind, is what Kami ends up doing and how a certain Lynburn reacts to that.
Due to the nice exciting ending, I think I can almost over look the first half of the book. Not only do I wonder about what will happen in the next book, but where does that leave Kami and the Lynburns? These are questions I better get answers to in the next book.
