4.5 out of 5: Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

Beautiful Darkness (Caster Chronicles #2) by Kami Carcia and Margaret Stohl
Summary:
Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.

Sometimes life-ending.

Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.

Review:
I still found that this book was a bit too long. However, I can tell you that it is better than the first book (Beautiful Creatures). I started reading this series because I heard there was a movie coming out. I was not fully convinced to go see the movie but, after reading this book, I want to go see our Ethan Wate!

Lena does not appear in this book a whole lot, that is definitely one of the factors that keeps you reading on.
Shipping: A term used to describe fan fictions that take previously created characters and put them as a pair. It usually refers to romantic relationships, but it can refer platonic ones as well.
I'm sure that the whole Caster fandom ships Ethan with Lena. Thus, Kami Carcia and Margaret Stohl made this book absoloutely frustrating by seperating Lena and Ethan. That would be another factor that pushes shoves you  to keep reading.

Personally, I like my books with a little action. There's not a whole lot of fighting, yet while Ethan is in the tunnels, a lot is uncovered.

Also, just like Beautiful Creatures, Kami and Margaret like wrapping up the book but then, on the very last page, they enjoy leaving a mini-cliff hanger. And once again, I must away, to get the next book!
