Review:
There is just enough mystery and action in the book to keep reading and persevere to the end of the book. However, there is not enough passion from the characters to hope for another book.
Honestly, during the first book, I was obsessed with Max, and Max and Charlie. Although it was predictable that Max was/is Sabara's grandson, it still made me jump with excitement when that secret was revealed in The Pledge. Comparably, Max and Charlie were separate for most of this book. Then, when a secret (or any other major event) occurred, I still didn't care enough to even silently curse.
Am I look forward to this book? No. Am I going to read it? Yes. *crossing fingers the next one will be as good or better than The Pledge*
