3.5 out of 5: AWAKEN By Mag Cabot

Awaken (Abandon Trilogy #3) by Meg Cabot
Summary:
Death has her in his clutches. She doesn’t want him to let go.

Seventeen-year-old Pierce Oliviera knew by accepting the love of John Hayden, she’d be forced to live forever in the one place she’s always dreaded most: the Underworld. The sacrifice seemed worth it, though, because it meant she could be with the boy she loves.

But now her happiness — and safety — are threatened, all because the Furies have discovered that John has broken one of their strictest rules: He revived a human soul.

If the balance between life and death isn’t fixed, both the Underworld and Pierce’s home back on earth will be wiped away. But there’s only one way to restore order. Someone has to die.

Review:
For a final book in this amazing series, I was looking for more. It's not a bad book -I've read worse- and I finished quite quickly, however, it did not reach my expectations.

Through out the series, Meg Cabot inputs slight changes to the way the book is narrorated. For most of the book it is in present tense, but once in a while to captivate the reader, Meg Cabot changes it to past tense (foreshadow-ing). For example:
If only I'd realized then that I'll be back were the last words I was ever going to hear him say.
This made me think that a future Pierce was re-telling this story (series). By the end of the book, this is not the case, and these inputs of future knowledge seem to come from a random point in the middle of the book.

I love Greek mythology because there is so many different legends and prophecy which create a giant mystery. However, in Awaken there just wasn't enough mystery in the book. Pierce needs to find a certain god so that she can rescue someone -who I will not say because that will ruin this book. The first critique that I have is that the first clue was given to Pierce too fast, and it was very easy to guess who the god (that she was looking for) was "hiding" in.

There are enough Pierce and John moments that keeps this book lively. So, here's to the Abandon Trilogy for being a great love-and-action story about a girl named Pierce and the ruler of the underworld, John Hayden.
