Summary:
Mila 2.0 is the first book in an electrifying sci-fi thriller series about a teenage girl who discovers that she is an experiment in artificial intelligence.
Mila was never meant to learn the truth about her identity. She was a girl living with her mother in a small Minnesota town. She was supposed to forget her past—that she was built in a secret computer science lab and programmed to do things real people would never do.
Now she has no choice but to run—from the dangerous operatives who want her terminated because she knows too much and from a mysterious group that wants to capture her alive and unlock her advanced technology. However, what Mila’s becoming is beyond anyone’s imagination, including her own, and it just might save her life.
Mila 2.0 is Debra Driza’s bold debut and the first book in a Bourne Identity-style trilogy that combines heart-pounding action with a riveting exploration of what it really means to be human. Fans of I Am Number Four will love Mila for who she is and what she longs to be—and a cliffhanger ending will leave them breathlessly awaiting the sequel.
This book is kind of distorting. The cover is quiet haunting, it got stuck in my mind until I finally got my hands on this book. Nothing quiet grabs your attention as much as a girl who seems to be falling into pieces.
It's quiet obvious that Mila is an android/cyborg/robot/etc. Thus, it's unfortunate when I say that one of the most exciting parts of the first 100 pages in the book is when Mila discovers she is a cyborg. Then suddenly, the plot advancement seemed to stop because there was no immediate danger and soon, I found this book boring. The other most exciting event in the first 100 pages is when Mila meets the mysterious Hunter -who also just moved into town. The next spike in excitement is about 140 pages in. So, this books' timeline is somewhat slow.
As mentioned earlier, this book is distorting. It has this post apocalyptic feeling because of the way Mila's life was created. Yet, this book takes place in present time. Also, for the first chapter or so, you did not know what was going on because Mila kept flipping back and forth between the past and the present.
I'd highly recommend this book to people who enjoyed Level 2 by Lenore Appelhans. If all you're looking for is a mysterious boy to read about, then this book is perfect for your. The chemistry between Mila and Hunter is fairly good. However, the plot could use some work.
