1 out of 5: Level 2 by Lenore Appelhans

Level 2 (The Memory Chronicles #1) by Lenore Appelhans
Summary:
In this gripping exploration of a futuristic afterlife, a teen discovers that death is just the beginning.

Since her untimely death the day before her eighteenth birthday, Felicia Ward has been trapped in Level 2, a stark white afterlife located between our world and the next. Along with her fellow drones, Felicia passes the endless hours reliving memories of her time on Earth and mourning what she’s lost—family, friends, and Neil, the boy she loved.

Then a girl in a neighboring chamber is found dead, and nobody but Felicia recalls that she existed in the first place. When Julian—a dangerously charming guy Felicia knew in life—comes to offer Felicia a way out, Felicia learns the truth: If she joins the rebellion to overthrow the Morati, the angel guardians of Level 2, she can be with Neil again.

Suspended between Heaven and Earth, Felicia finds herself at the center of an age-old struggle between good and evil. As memories from her life come back to haunt her, and as the Morati hunt her down, Felicia will discover it’s not just her own redemption at stake… but the salvation of all mankind.

Review:
When I start a book I feel like it is my duty to finish the book and the rest of the series, so it's quiet rare that I don't finish a book/series. It started off as a good book. However, after the first few chapters, there isn't much going on in the book. Also, the characters are hard to grasp and connect with.

It's a new and interesting idea. It's like a mix between angels and zombies. Felicia is re-telling her past through memories. This is the way the reader gets to understand Felicia. The two big mysteries of this book is 'Where is Neil?' and 'How did everyone die?' Aside from that, there is not much tension between the characters. Also, somehow everyone Felicia knew has died. Perhaps it is explained later why everyone died, but there still more things that need to be questioned in this book.

I made it to page 150 in, but still no action was going on. The memories that Falicia replays are boring and some scenes seem like the minor un-important details of her life. This is when Lenore starts loosing the attention of the reader.

Certain authors don't get a say on how the book cover looks, but I'll point out the flaw in it anyway. Lenore describes everyone in the afterlife to have no hair. Yet, on the cover, there's (who I presume is) Felicia on the cover with a good amount of hair!

I'm truly sad to say the adventures of Felicia will remain a mystery for me. I don't think I can endure to the end of this book.
