Summary:
Time is running out for Rhine in this conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Chemical Garden Trilogy.
With the clock ticking until the virus takes its toll, Rhine is desperate for answers. After enduring Vaughn’s worst, Rhine finds an unlikely ally in his brother, an eccentric inventor named Reed. She takes refuge in his dilapidated house, though the people she left behind refuse to stay in the past. While Gabriel haunts Rhine’s memories, Cecily is determined to be at Rhine’s side, even if Linden’s feelings are still caught between them.
Meanwhile, Rowan’s growing involvement in an underground resistance compels Rhine to reach him before he does something that cannot be undone. But what she discovers along the way has alarming implications for her future—and about the past her parents never had the chance to explain.
In this breathtaking conclusion to Lauren DeStefano’s Chemical Garden trilogy, everything Rhine knows to be true will be irrevocably shattered.
There's something about this series -perhaps it the peculiar cover or the layout of the book- that makes it so haunting to read, yet at the same time it's so beautiful.
The only problem I had was that it was a year ago when I read Fever and two years ago when I read Wither, I couldn't remember some parts of the story. I could only remember that Wither was amazing! So, I was incredibly excited to read this last book. The ends of series tends to be really emotional because you know you will never see/hear about those characters ever again. I was disappointing that there was not a lot of Gabriel in this book.
This book was captivating enough to finish it in about 2 days; I didn't mind staying up to read. But when I was past the middle of the book, I was still shocked that the plot wasn't exploding. It seemed like I was still in the slow rising action. Also, certain things ended awkwardly and certain characters aren't given the justice they deserve.
However, I gave this book a four because I think there was more to this story than just reading about the adventure of Rhine. Certain quotes are good enough to write down and perhaps remind yourself whenever you're in need of some motivation.
Lauren DeStefano did a great job on writing this book. I hope her next series will be just as good or even better! I don't think I can ever get over how Lauren created such a oxymoronic world.
