4 out of 5: Let the Sky Fall by Shannon Messenger

Let the Sky Fall (Let the Sky Fall #1) by Shannon Messenger
Summary:
Seventeen-year-old Vane Weston has no idea how he survived the category five tornado that killed his parents. And he has no idea if the beautiful, dark-haired girl who’s swept through his dreams every night since the storm is real. But he hopes she is.

Seventeen-year-old Audra is a sylph, an air elemental. She walks on the wind, can translate its alluring songs, and can even coax it into a weapon with a simple string of commands. She’s also a guardian—Vane’s guardian—and has sworn an oath to protect Vane at all costs. Even if it means sacrificing her own life.

When a hasty mistake reveals their location to the enemy who murdered both of their families, Audra’s forced to help Vane remember who he is. He has a power to claim—the secret language of the West Wind, which only he can understand. But unlocking his heritage will also unlock the memory Audra needs him to forget. And their greatest danger is not the warriors coming to destroy them—but the forbidden romance that’s grown between them.

Review:
Beautiful cover, it drawn me to read this book. The summary convinced me thoroughly. There was only one thing I just couldn't let go and it truly bothered me.

This book all happens within days, which mean that Vane and Audra fall in love in less than a week. Although, many stories do have a fast pace romance -I do like those books too- this one just seemed a little too fast or at least there wasn't enough of that romantic tension.

The plot picks up quickly. The beginning can be a little distorting but, you'll catch on quickly enough. The use sylphs as an air elemental is new and intriguing. I don't think I've read another book about air elementals. Audra's realm has new and different rules, it's interesting to discover the different laws of the Gale.

Not only was the plot unique, but, the role of characters are a twist in the usual boy-girl romantic. Audra is a very strong girl, mentally and -compared to most people- physically too. Audra looks after Vane, this is not saying that Vane is a whimp or something, but there is a different approach to the love story between those two.

The next book hasn't come out yet, but there wasn't much of a cliff hanger, and I do wonder how the next book will progress. There wasn't enough emotional closure, so I trust that the next book will not be a drag. This book has a funny, and fresh plot with a strong female -and male- lead.
